In August 2024, the official online shop of Ichikawa Basket Shop, “1basketry,”
reopened with a renewed design and a fresh start.

The beginning of “1basketry,” its original grand opening,
dates back to around the summer of 2022.

Even before that, we often received inquiries asking,
“I live overseas—would it be possible to have items shipped to me?”
These requests became the catalyst for launching an online shop
specifically for customers living outside Japan.

Thus, “1basketry” began as an online shop designed for people living abroad—
both Japanese residents overseas and international customers—
offering bilingual content in Japanese and English,
along with international shipping.

The name “1basketry” can be translated literally as “one basket.”
As a specialty shop centered on baskets and hand-crafted objects,
it reflects our wish to offer items that exist as a single presence—
or, even if not strictly one of a kind, pieces that are never mass-produced.

Each item we carry is made with time, care, and human hands,
and we hope to share these precious works with you.

The number “1” also holds many layers of meaning for us.

From one seed,
everything begins.

From one plant,
one basket woven.

From one pair of hands,
one form shaped.

From one encounter,
one story begins.

From one weave,
a form takes shape.

From one piece,
something unique in the world.

From that one,
a quiet joy, a lasting support.

From one basket,
a life gently accompanied.

At 1basketry, we carefully introduce baskets and handcrafted items made from natural materials,
along with the stories of the places, materials, and people connected to them.

We hope to place each object—and the story that lives beside it—into 1basketry,
and share them with people around the world.

At its core, a basket is a vessel made to hold things, and also meant to be carried.

With that in mind, we began to imagine how meaningful it could be to place another small,
heart-lifting object inside a basket, and send them together.
Alongside baskets, sieves, and other woven goods we have long introduced,
1basketry will also present and offer carefully chosen items that we ourselves find beautiful and worth sharing.

For us, 1basketry is like a second shop—an extension of Ichikawa Basket Shop.
Just as we do with our physical store, we hope to care for it patiently,
allowing it to grow over time as a place shaped by steady, thoughtful work.

Our physical shop in Minami-Senju, Tokyo, now marks its 10th year under the fifth generation.
The name of the shop remains unchanged: Ichikawa Basket Shop.
