Collection: Hachiku bamboo
Hachiku Bamboo is one of Japan's three most useful bamboo species, alongside Madake and Moso Bamboo. Compared with Madake, its nodes are less pronounced, and its surface has a pale green color created by a natural waxy coating. It is said that the name Hachiku comes from this lighter color. Its bamboo shoots are also enjoyed as a seasonal food.
Across western Japan, Hachiku has long been used as a material for basketry, from baskets and strainers to tea whisks. Split into fine strips, it is flexible and easy to work with, making it well suited to everyday tools for the kitchen and dining table.
Here, we introduce baskets, strainers, and other handcrafted items made from Hachiku Bamboo for everyday life.
