Announcement: Hiromi Kiriyama & Vintage Items — Sales and Made-to-Order Event

Starting yesterday, September 11, our “The One Table” special exhibition—“Hiromi Kiriyama New Works × Vintage Items”—has begun on our official online shop, featuring both ready-made pieces and made-to-order baskets.
・Sales and made-to-order period for Kiriyama’s aotake baskets
・Sales period for vintage items
Both are available until Tuesday, September 30.

*About baskets by Hiromi Kiriyama
This special exhibition marks the first time that several dozen of Kiriyama’s new bamboo baskets, created over the past few years, are being shown together in one place. All of these new works are also available on our official online shop.
In addition to the new pieces, we are also accepting made-to-order requests—both in our shop and online—for many of Kiriyama’s baskets that we have introduced and sold in the past (with a few exceptions), just as we do for his latest works.
Please note that the number of orders we can accept is limited, depending on material availability and the artist’s schedule. Some items may therefore close for sales or made-to-order requests even during the event period. (Items that are no longer available will be marked as “SOLD OUT.”)
If there is anything that catches your attention, we warmly encourage you to place your order early.
It is also the first time, I believe, that we have been able to offer such a wide range of Kiriyama’s baskets—crafted over his career of more than 30 years—for made-to-order requests.
We hope you enjoy exploring this special opportunity.

*About the vintage items
These pieces are also available for a limited time on our official online shop.
As you browse, you may find yourself imagining how they were once used,
and how you might bring them into your own daily life—each item carries a quiet sense of history that invites such thoughts.
We hope you enjoy exploring them as well.

“The One Table” Special Exhibition
Hiromi Kiriyama – New Works in Dialogue with Selected Antiques
– Memories of Form, and the Hands that Renew –
For more than 30 years, Hiromi Kiriyama has continued to create traditional aotake (green bamboo) craftwork rooted in Kyushu and other regions of Japan, making a wide range of practical tools for everyday life.
The baskets that come from his hands carry a sense of honesty as daily utensils, while also holding a quiet beauty that gently fits into contemporary living.
Kiriyama’s baskets are based on traditional forms passed down through generations, yet each one has been thoughtfully reexamined—its dimensions, its weave, its structure—so that it may suit the ways we live today. Through this careful process, familiar shapes are woven anew into something distinctly his own.
Every piece reflects the overlap between the maker’s ingenuity and the user’s perspective.
Made solely from green bamboo and the vine of tsuzurafuji, his baskets reveal a purity of form—simple, and therefore striking. The diversity of shapes, almost unbelievable considering they arise from the same natural materials, naturally draws the eye.
In our September “The One Table” special exhibition, we feature and offer for sale the new works from Aotake Workshop Kiriyama.
Within these new works are pieces that revisit and renew older designs Kiriyama once made—revivals that bring the past and present gently together.
As another new undertaking, Ichikawa Basketry will, for the first time, present and sell a selection of vintage items.
These vintage tools are not antiques for display, but everyday objects that were once used—perhaps in someone’s kitchen, or in a corner of a home. Their expressions have been shaped by time spent alongside people and nature, and through years of use they have grown soft to the touch.
All of them are items that can still be used today.
They are tools that calm and enrich daily moments—at the kitchen sink, during tea time or meals, or as warm elements of interior décor. Just like the green bamboo baskets, we hope they will accompany you in your everyday life.
Kiriyama himself is fond of vintage objects.
Please come and discover baskets—and vintage pieces—whose “forms” seem to resonate with one another across time.
We look forward to welcoming you.
