Willow Baskets from Lithuania Have Arrived

2025/12/08

Share

Hello.
This is Aya Ichikawa from 1basketry.

At our physical store, we are currently holding a special exhibition from our series “The One Table.”
In this exhibition, we are presenting and selling baskets made from walnut, akebi vine, and willow, along with Gara-bō cotton stoles.

In this journal, we introduce baskets and other crafts made from peeled willow that have arrived from Lithuania.

We also have a wide selection of baskets made by Sigitas, a master basket maker from Lithuania.

“Peeled willow” refers to willow rods that have had their outer bark carefully removed.

This type of basket can also be found in places such as Poland,
but the peeled willow that comes from Lithuania is especially known for its gentle, pale color.

When touched by natural light, the surface reflects it softly and brightly—an impression that quietly stays with you.

  • Oval Basket with Handle “Rounded Shape” – Bark Finish is a rare type of basket, woven by combining peeled willow for the upper section and willow rods with their natural bark left intact for the lower part.
  • Seen from the side, the basket shows a generous oval form, with a softly arched handle that gives it a gentle, welcoming impression. It appears to offer ample capacity.
  • Oval Basket with Handle “Rounded Shape” is also a generously sized basket, distinguished by its beautiful form that gently swells toward the base.
  • This basket also has a beautifully balanced oval shape. Even simply looking at it as it rests there, you can sense the depth and character it holds.
  • Oval Basket with Handle – Bark Finish is woven primarily from willow rods with their natural bark left intact. The contrast in tone between the bark-covered willow and peeled willow adds a quiet sense of enjoyment to this piece.
  • This basket also features an oval shape that feels easy and practical to use. It would be a lovely companion for everyday shopping, outings, and even for travel.
  • Picnic Basket XL features a straight, cylindrical form with a clean and well-balanced appearance.
  • With its generous size, it is also well suited for storing blankets and stoles.
  • Picnic Basket M has a gently flared shape, giving it a relaxed and spacious presence. More than just a basket for storage, it also stands out as an expressive interior piece.
  • It is also well suited for shopping or outings when you have a bit more to carry, and it will surely draw attention wherever you go.
  • Oval Basket with Handle is a well-balanced size that feels easy to carry as a handbag, making it a comfortable companion for outings.
  • This basket also has an oval shape that sits comfortably against the body. Its clean, upright silhouette gives it a refined and graceful look.
  • Round Basket with Handle has a charming, softly rounded form that feels endearing and warm.
  • It works well as a handbag, or placed in a room to hold small items, and is also useful for discreetly storing everyday cleaning tools.
  • Tall Basket with Handle – Bark Finish gently flares outward from the base, then subtly narrows again around the middle of the basket. Its shape is quietly captivating and naturally draws the eye.
  • The lower part of the basket and the rim are made from willow rods with their bark left intact. The subtle shifts in color when paired with peeled willow are a pleasure to see, giving the basket a rich and distinctive character.
  • Round Basket with Handle – Small features a graceful curve that rises smoothly from the base to the top.
  • It is a lovely size for short outings, just enough to carry essentials such as a wallet and a smartphone.
  • こRound Basket with Handle – Mini has a shallow form, making it well suited for holding small items or for placing a few pieces of fruit.
  • It is also a nice size for young children to carry, and could be used as a small basket for gathering little finds or harvests.
  • Tall Basket with Handle – Mini is woven simply from peeled willow. Its clean, understated form would pair beautifully with flowers as a small vessel for floral arrangements.
  • The handle is also carefully made, with a gentle and comfortable feel in the hand.
  • Oval Basket with Handle – Mini is a small, shallow basket that would be easy to use when placed on a counter or in an entryway.
  • Because of its shallow form, the basket highlights whatever is placed inside, making it a lovely choice for display as well.

The warm, fresh, and pure tones of peeled willow pair beautifully with the rich variety of colors and patterns found in Gara-bou spun cotton stoles.

Please note that baskets made with bark-covered willow may occasionally have small splinters, which can catch on fabric items. We recommend handling them with care when used together with textiles.

むき

Peeled willow baskets are now available for purchase at our official online shop.

*Please visit this page to explore our selection of willow baskets.

We have also added a selection of Gara-bō spun cotton stoles to our official online shop.

We warmly invite you to take a look.

*Please visit this page to view the Gara-bō Spun Cotton Stoles – Medium Series.

Suno & Morrison, who create our Gara-bō spun cotton stoles, have kindly prepared these “Gara-bō Mini Towels” especially for us.

At the moment, customers who purchase one or more items from our Gara-bō stole series at our shop will receive one of these mini towels as a gift.

At first, the towel contains natural oils, so its absorbency may feel modest,
but with repeated washing, it gradually becomes more absorbent.

Even in this mini towel size, you can fully enjoy the pleasant, distinctive texture of Gara-bō cotton.
We hope you will enjoy trying it.

We also accept mail orders for both the baskets and the Gara-bō spun cotton stoles.
Please feel free to contact us by email or phone with any inquiries.

Now then, a number of other delightful craft items have also arrived from Lithuania.

These are small baskets—miniature versions of traditional harvest baskets.

This style of woven basket is commonly seen in Lithuania,
but among them, this piece stands out for its particularly beautiful finish.

They are useful for holding small items such as accessories, earphones, or keys,
and are a handy choice for everyday storage.

And here is a “Stopper Clip” made from European linden wood.

It can be used to close opened bags of tea, sweets, and other food items,
helping you keep partially used packages neatly sealed for storage.

A simple yet thoughtfully designed tool. Not only pleasing to the eye, it is also easy to use and proves very useful around the kitchen.

And here, we introduce a selection of blended herbal teas from “My Cup of Tea,” a welcome companion for the colder season.

The tisanes by My Cup of Tea are crafted in their own workshop in Lithuania, using traditional methods while developing recipes suited to modern daily life.

By blending each batch carefully by hand in small quantities,
the teas retain their freshness, allowing their delicate aromas and rich flavors to fully emerge.

We invite you to come and discover a flavor that speaks to you.

The exhibition runs until Saturday, December 13.
We warmly invite you to visit and experience the pieces in person, and we look forward to welcoming you.

The special feature is presented on the central table.

The other shelves display our regular selection, as usual.
Alongside restocked items, we will also be introducing newly arrived pieces.

We hope you enjoy exploring these as well.
