How to care
These products are made from all-natural materials and if taken good care of they will last for dozens of years. The color and texture will gradually change and deepen over time.
1.After Use
After you have used a bamboo sieve or basket around water be sure and wash it with
a scrub brush and fresh clean water shortly after use. You should remove as much excess water as possible and place it in a place with good air flow for it to dry. If there is no place with good air flow, hang it near a fan. If you leave it too long in direct sunlight the bamboo might become brittle and crack.
Unless you use the item with oil products, there is no need to use detergent when washing it. Washing lightly with a scrub brush and cold or warm water is generally sufficient. Do not put it in a dish washer! When you use the item with oil, it is okay to wash it with an alkaline detergent. Be sure and rinse it thoroughly.
If it is an item that is not used around water, avoid moisture. In the event that it does get wet, wipe it gently with a soft dry cloth.
The rims of the bamboo sieves and baskets carry the bulk of the weight when lifting and are vulnerable to breakage, so be sure and use both hands when handling them. Be careful not strike the rim of the product when washing it so as avoid damaging it.
2.Steps to protect from mold
Avoid placing the item in a humid place. Store it in a place with good air flow that is as dry as possible. Low areas close to the floor may be susceptible to humidity, so It is best to place it on a higher shelf away from the floor.
When not using hand held items, it is best to store them in an area with good air flow rather than in a cabinet. The best way to protect from mold is to use the item daily.
3.Steps to protect from insect damage
Bamboo contains natural sugars. Other natural materials also occasionally have substances that are conducive to insect gestation. It is impossible to discover all the insects which may be in the materials themselves and if the product is left unused for a period of time, it may also attract insects. We take great care to insure the quality of our products, however, occasionally insects may eat the materials creating small holes and leaving white powder residue. We value the texture of the all-natural materials we use and do not use insecticides. Thus, a total eradication of insects is difficult to insure.
In the event that white powder residue is evident, we recommend pouring scalding water of over 60 degrees centigrade on the affected area. Also, as a preventative measure, brushing it regularly with a scrub brush is advisable.
4.Everyday use
It may be difficult, but the best care for these products is to use them every day. The craftsmen from ancient times and the people who produce these products in the modern era make them to be used. There are, of course, some crafts which are more conducive to be used as art items, but the bamboo products we handle are for the most part produced for the purpose of being used. We encourage you to handle and use these products on a daily basis.
CAUTION with regards to products hand made from all-natural materials
Beware of hangnails and broken off parts as they may poke you or damage clothing.
As the products are all hand made from natural materials each one will vary in texture, coloration and shape. Also due to the type of materials being used and the fact that many of the craftsman are aging, there may be some slight contortion of the shape.
After getting wet, in order to ensure that mold does not grow, wipe away all excess water and place it to dry in an airy place away from direct sunlight.
With the exception of faulty products, our policy is to not honor return requests for reasons such as the customer’s mistake in ordering, difference in texture or expectations, natural hangnails or contortions. If, however, the product you receive is faulty, please contact us within 7 days of delivery.
