This rice paddle is made of moso bamboo and is available in two colors: Natural and Red.
It comes in three sizes—Small, Medium, and Large—for a total of six variations.

Compared to materials such as metal, bamboo is remarkably light, yet it also offers strength and durability. It has a gentle warmth to the touch, and its sturdy construction is part of the appeal of bamboo kitchen utensils.
This is the handle. Shown here are the Medium and Large sizes among the three. From the end of the handle, the width gently narrows toward the tip.
This shows the Small size. Unlike the Medium and Large versions, the tip of the handle is rounded.
The handle measures about 0.6–0.7 cm (0.24–0.28″) at its thickest point.
In the Medium and Large sizes, the cross-section of the handle forms a gentle triangular shape.
This subtle detail contributes to its ease of use when held in the hand.
In all sizes, the scooping surface is finished flat. Using specialized tools and machinery, and through repeated polishing, each piece is brought to a remarkably smooth finish.
These are the Small and Medium sizes. The Small size is not perfectly symmetrical; it has a slight rounded curve on the left side.
These are the Medium and Large sizes. They are made to be almost symmetrical from left to right.
In the Natural finish, the characteristic grain of bamboo can be seen.
In the Red finish as well, a soft matte beauty quietly unfolds.

The bamboo rice paddle is a long-established classic.
While it carries the reassurance of a familiar form,
it also gives the impression of being thoughtfully redesigned for the present.

We will introduce each size in order, beginning with the Small.
This one is the Natural finish.
This is the Small size in the Red finish. The form is the same as the Natural version. An additional coloring process is added in its making. It may also be used in various ways as a small spatula—when preparing hand-rolled sushi, mixing dressed dishes, or filling dumplings.
The Small size in the Natural finish is shown here in use.
This is the Medium size in the Natural finish.
The Medium size in the Natural finish is shown here in use.
This is the Medium size in the Red finish. It may be used in its traditional role as a rice paddle. It is slightly smaller than the standard rice paddles that have long been commonly used.
The Medium size in the Red finish is shown here in use.
This is the Large size in the Natural finish.
This is the Large size in the Red finish. It may be considered the standard size of a traditional rice paddle. The vivid red, which gently stimulates the appetite, can be enjoyed regardless of gender or nationality.
The Large size in the Red finish is shown here in use.

As a final step, both colors are finished with a polyurethane coating that complies with the Food Sanitation Act.
This finishing process smooths the surface and helps prevent water and oil
from penetrating into the bamboo, thereby enhancing the durability of the product.

This coating is not intended to prevent rice from sticking.
Rice may adhere, but if the paddle is soaked briefly in water before washing, it can be cleaned smoothly.

At the same time, this treatment makes it less likely for the color of rich sauces to transfer.
Compared to an uncoated, truly natural piece, it can retain its original appearance for a much longer time.

However, if the surface is bitten or scratched with a sharp object, the coating may wear off more quickly.
From there, water can penetrate the bamboo, which may lead to darkening or mold, so please handle it with care.

For the same reason, we do not recommend using a dishwasher, as it may accelerate wear.
When washing, we suggest using a soft sponge and a mild detergent.

Although the coating will gradually wear over time with use,
if handled gently, it can be enjoyed for many years.

It is available in two colors: Natural and Red.
The Natural finish clearly reveals the inherent grain and character of the bamboo,
while the Red offers a distinct tone that brings a different expression from ordinary bamboo utensils.
In terms of color transfer, marks may be less noticeable on the Red than on the Natural finish.

The Small size may lend itself to a variety of uses beyond the traditional role of a rice paddle.
For the Medium and Large sizes, you may choose according to the number of family members or the size of your rice cooker.

Please check the details carefully and select the size and color that feel right to you.

— Two Generations of Cutlery Making in Oita Prefecture —

In Oita Prefecture, there is a craftsperson who has continued making cutlery
since their parents’ generation.

Although they did not originally intend to take over the family craft,
they chose to inherit it and reconsider cutlery making from their own perspective.
Today, they continue to create a wide range of pieces, producing them day by day.

While the previous generation worked exclusively with bamboo,
the current maker sought to expand the range of forms.
They undertook further training in wooden cutlery making,
allowing them to create items that are difficult to achieve with bamboo alone,
such as ladles and spoons with generous depth, as well as plates.

With the belief that “cutlery is something for everyday use,” usability is always placed first.
At the same time, the finished pieces naturally carry pleasing tones
and a sense of design that delights the eye.

Through uncompromising polishing by skilled hands and a carefully applied polyurethane finish,
these cutlery pieces offer a smooth, comfortable feel at the mouth and ease of care,
making them suitable for users of all ages.

Among the many pieces, we believe you will find one that fits comfortably
in your hand and feels just right to use.
