This is a “Tawashi” scrub brush made from shuro palm fibers.

Tawashi brushes made from natural shuro palm have fibers with just the right firmness and flexibility.
They can be safely used on delicate items such as glassware, cups, or non-stick pans without scratching them.

When carefully selected, shuro fibers are soft enough to use even for body care, gentle to the touch on the skin.

Their soft texture and resilient bounce are unique to shuro palm.

A tawashi is also an important tool for caring for baskets and colanders. Its bristles easily slip into the weave, sweeping away fine dust and scrubbing out hidden dirt.

Even basket artisans who work with akebi vine or wild grape often say, “Nothing cleans a basket like a tawashi.” We also recommend this brush for basket care.

Whether scrubbing dishes or vegetables, or polishing baskets and colanders, the tawashi has long remained an essential tool in the kitchen and home.

On this page, we introduce the basic shape of tawashi—
the one most people imagine when they think of it—in two sizes: small and medium.

Its standard form has a reassuring familiarity.
The shuro fibers are long and soft to the touch.
A shuro rope runs through the middle, binding it firmly.
One side has a metal fitting with a shuro rope attached, allowing it to be hung for storage.
This is the small size. Slightly smaller than the traditional standard, it fits comfortably in the hand and is recommended as a first tawashi.
It is convenient for washing bamboo steamers or colanders around the kitchen, or for cleaning baskets with ease.
This is the medium size, the long-standing traditional standard. It is suitable for thorough scrubbing, such as cutting boards, pans, or earthen pots, and also for cleaning baths or sinks.
The small size was created based on customer feedback. Just by making it slightly smaller, it becomes much easier to use. Because it is made from natural materials, loose fibers or fine dust may come off at first, but this will settle with use.

The shape that has been used for generations has never lost its charm, even in today’s time.

With the gentle softness of shuro, it removes only the dirt while leaving vegetable skins intact.
Washing potatoes, carrots, or burdock roots becomes surprisingly enjoyable.

After use, remove any debris caught in the bristles, shake off the water thoroughly,
and hang it with the attached string or place it on a draining rack to dry.

The pleasant rhythm of scrubbing with a tawashi
brings a gentle sense of calm and comfort to everyday kitchen life.

Please check the sizes and choose your preferred one.
