This is an antique teshoku (hand candle holder).

It is a type of candlestick designed for holding candles,
with one of the three legs extended to serve also as a handle for carrying.
The long handle provided stability and prevented burns from the flame or dripping wax.
This type was mainly used indoors.

This iron hand candle holder was used from the Edo to Meiji period.
The needle-shaped spike for holding the candle is still intact and functional. (Candles are not included.)
There is rust throughout, but it can be appreciated as part of its character.
Simple yet practical, it also has the presence of an art piece, with a decorative quality of its own.
Beyond lighting the darkness at night, it may also be enjoyed during the day
—dim the lights indoors and spend a quiet moment with the gentle glow of a candle.
