This is a small square dish in sometsuke (underglaze blue), believed to have been made in the late Edo to Meiji period (19th century).
Although the photo shows four pieces, they are sold individually.

This small dish combines molded patterns with indigo sometsuke (underglaze blue),
creating the charm of delicate designs compressed into a compact form.
At the center are motifs reminiscent of plum blossoms, floral diamonds, or circular flower emblems.
You can also see traces of yōkoku (incised relief outlines that appear faintly on the surface).
The blue decoration is thought to have been applied using inban (a transfer-printing method with woodblocks or copper plates),
with variations in depth and alignment giving each piece its own character.
Several different patterns exist, but we are not able to accept requests.
Our shop will select one at our discretion from the stock available at the time of your order.

The technique known as yōkoku—patterns that emerge with the play of light—
adds a quiet sense of refinement to the whole dish.
It is well sized for serving small portions of side dishes, condiments, or sweets.
Beyond use as a small plate, it can also hold accessories, bringing a calm presence to the table or shelf.
With age, some pieces show tetsuten (tiny black or brown iron spots), pinholes in the glaze,
or slight unevenness in the surface. These do not affect use and are considered part of the character of pottery.
