This is a cutlery case made from white bamboo.
White bamboo refers to green madake (Japanese timber bamboo)
that has been harvested from the mountains,
then boiled or sun-dried to draw out its natural oils and mellow its color.
The result is a pale, slightly golden bamboo with a refined, even tone.

With a refreshing pattern of interlocking diamond shapes, it forms a rectangular shape with softly rounded corners.

On this page, we introduce a cutlery case made from white bamboo.

When you hold this basket in your hands,
you will likely notice that it is crafted far more solidly and sturdily than it appears.
The artisan who made it has undergone thorough training and possesses exceptional skill,
so you can use it with complete confidence.

With its calm yet bright and refreshing color,
a white bamboo basket instantly brings light to your dining table.
The open weave allows air to circulate around the cutlery placed inside.
This is especially beneficial for cutlery made from natural materials such as bamboo or wood,
helping to keep them in good condition during storage.

It’s also perfect for keeping your child’s small spoons and forks neatly together.
It could even serve as a handy place for handkerchiefs or mini towels, making it a versatile addition to your home.
Over time, the color deepens into a warm amber hue,
and with a gentle scrub using water or hot water and a tawashi brush, its luster returns—even after many months.
This graceful transformation is one of bamboo’s greatest charms.
Please check the size of your own cutlery at home, and enjoy using this piece in the way that suits you best.

Work at a Welfare Facility and Bamboo – Continuing the Journey
In Beppu City, Oita Prefecture, there is a vocational training center dedicated to bamboo craft.
Each year, about ten students graduate and begin their own paths as bamboo artisans.
The people who come here vary widely in age, background,
and reasons for entering the world of bamboo weaving, each carrying their own story.
The artisan featured here worked for many years at a welfare facility
before deciding to study bamboo craft at the vocational training center.
After graduating, they have continued making bamboo baskets in Oita,
while still remaining active in welfare work to this day.
