This basket is woven with strips of green bamboo whose outer skin has been shaved thin.
Green bamboo refers to Madake bamboo freshly cut while still retaining its natural green color.

By shaving, the hard enamel-like outer surface is removed,
giving the bamboo a softer look and a glossy, enhanced beauty.
The soft sheen that emerges carries calmness and dignity,
and over time it gradually turns a clear, even amber.

On this page, we introduce the “Three-Tier Nesting Round Basket.”

It was made to hold a complete set of tea utensils—teapot, cups, saucers, and sweets—for those who enjoy tea.
With a handle for carrying tea implements used in matcha or Chinese tea,
the basket also comes with two lidded tiers stacked on top.

When I first saw this basket, its form struck me so deeply that I could not look away.
Mr. Kiriyama says that “round forms” are unique in basketry,
and indeed this design has an unusual and striking presence unlike most baskets.
The single, simple handle that holds the three nested tiers together adds just the right balance.

Smoked bamboo inserted at the center of the basket adds an accent.
Smoked bamboo is created from bamboo used for roof supports or silkworm racks in thatched houses,
darkened by exposure to hearth smoke for 100 to 200 years.
Depending on the exposure, variations of shade appear like patterns,
and where the smoke was strongest, the surface can shine almost black.
This smoked bamboo comes from split pieces salvaged from dismantled old houses in Taketa, Oita.

The basket has a calm and stable presence that makes you feel at ease just by looking at it.
The shallow lid can also be used as a tray, and the deeper lid is suitable for storing small dishes or cups.
This three-tier nesting basket offers many possible uses, depending on its owner.
We hope you will enjoy it for many years to come.
Please note that the color of green bamboo may vary depending on when it was harvested and the condition of the material.
Some pieces may have a deeper green tone, while others may appear lighter or slightly yellowish.
We kindly ask for your understanding that returns cannot be accepted for this reason.

About the Bamboo Baskets by Hiromi Kiriyama
Each basket begins with carefully selected Green Bamboo or Tsudura-fuji vines.
From harvesting and preparing the materials to weaving the basket itself,
every step is approached with attentiveness and precision.
Mr. Kiriyama creates baskets with a clear sense of proportion and balance,
while always considering how the piece will fit naturally into everyday life.
These finely crafted baskets, made from polished Green Bamboo and Tsudura-fuji,
combine a quiet strength with refined design.
Their finish reflects the high level of skill unique to his workshop.
The variety of sizes and shapes has also evolved by listening to the voices of those who use them.
One of the pleasures of these baskets is watching their fresh green gradually deepen
into a warm amber hue over time.
Beyond their exceptional quality, each piece is designed to be practical.
They are baskets meant to accompany daily life for many years to come.
