These handwoven mats are made from Indian cotton.

It is made in the city of Kanpur, located in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, near the Nepal border where mountain ranges stretch across the landscape.

Cotton, though adaptable to dry climates, still requires an ample water supply to thrive.

Kanpur has a relatively high amount of rainfall within India, and with irrigation channels drawn from the Ganges River that flows near the city center, it has long prospered as a hub for cotton cultivation and textile production.

The diverse cotton fabrics produced there have long attracted visitors with their craftsmanship and beauty.

This Mat series adds original design elements to the traditional cotton textiles of Kanpur.

On this page, we feature the Mono Mat from the Mat series,
designed to be used on floors or larger tabletops.
It is available in two sizes: S and M.

It is woven with a combination of two colors—ivory and black.
A continuous V-shaped herringbone pattern extends across the entire surface. Both sides feature a clean, refined weave, allowing the mat to be used on either side.
Fringes are added to both ends to prevent fraying.
The mat has substantial thickness, providing cushioning that prevents scratches or noise when placing heavy items such as glass, ceramics, or furniture.
With a soft, full texture and pleasant touch, it feels warm and comfortable under your hands. It can be hand-washed at home, making it easy to care for and use every day without worry.
Now, let us introduce each size.
This is the S size.
It can be placed on the floor and used as a mat for the entryway, washroom, or bedside. You can also place it under a potted plant or floor lamp, or use it as a base for a slipper rack or magazine stand.
Beyond floor use, it also looks beautiful in the center of a dining table—to serve large dishes or display several plates together. It also makes a perfect base for a large flower vase. Just by laying this mat, you can add a touch of understated elegance to your space.
This is the M size.
It can also be used in the entryway, washroom, or beside the bed, and it works wonderfully as a kitchen mat. You can use it as a base for storage baskets you like to keep on the floor.
It also suits a small desk, side table, or stool—creating a cozy, inviting space, almost like adding a little “room within a room.”

It feels smooth and pleasant against bare feet,
offering the refreshing texture of natural cotton that makes it suitable for year-round use.

The weave is tight and durable, yet soft and airy,
so it can be easily rolled or folded for storage when not in use.

Wherever you place it and whatever you put on it,
this mat creates a small, special space that feels uniquely your own.

However, please avoid using it in humid areas,
as moisture may cause mold—use it in a well-ventilated space.

The original design features a refined mix of ivory and black,
a timeless combination that blends beautifully with both Japanese and Western interiors.

Its soft, full texture and substantial thickness add a comforting sense of warmth and stability.
A mat that invites you to enjoy its feel—under your hands, beneath your feet—many times a day,
making you want to place one in every room.

Please enjoy it in whichever way suits your space and lifestyle.

This mat series is a brand product by Suno & Morrison, a Japan-based brand.

— Care Instructions —

* For regular care, use a vacuum cleaner, brush, or a well-wrung damp cloth.

* Hand wash gently with a mild detergent (do not use chlorine or enzyme-based bleach).

* Please note that slight variations in color or weave may occur due to the nature of the material.

* This item is dyed in India and treated for colorfastness;
however, some fading may occur depending on the dyeing season (e.g., monsoon period) and conditions.
We recommend washing it separately to avoid color transfer.
For indigo-dyed items in particular, wash separately two or three times before use.

* Because each piece is hand-dyed and handwoven,
there may be slight differences in color and pattern from the photos.

Please note:
This item ships from Japan.
As the buyer, you are responsible for any import duties, customs fees, or local taxes that may be charged in your country.
These costs are not included in the item price or shipping cost.
Please check with your local customs authority if you are unsure about any potential charges before placing your order.
