This basket is handwoven from willow and features a handle for easy carrying.
It is available in two types: Natural (left in the photo) and White (right in the photo).

The maker is Jeanny, who lives in Belgium.
She works closely with her son, Jefke, carrying on their craft side by side.
Based on traditional European basketry forms,
they incorporate their own techniques and knowledge to create baskets that are more durable and more precisely woven.

The willow used for these baskets is different from the weeping willow commonly seen in Japan, whose branches hang down from trees. Instead, it grows upright in clumps from the ground.
There are many varieties of willow, each with its own color and characteristics.
Some have slender branches, others are thicker; some grow long, while others are shorter. Some are used with the bark left intact, while others are peeled to reveal a smooth, pale surface.
The bark may appear reddish, slightly bluish, or in deeper brown tones—showing subtle variations even within the same type of willow.

On this page, we introduce a round basket with a gently curved, softly rounded form.

At the center of the base, thicker willow rods are arranged, from which the weaving gradually spreads outward in a radial pattern.
The rim has been reinforced with multiple layers of wrapping, giving the basket a sturdy construction and a reassuring feel when held.

The rich, expressive tones of Natural, and the pure, unadorned white of White.
These textures—captivating no matter how long you look—are part of the enduring appeal of willow.

In addition to being used as a basket bag, it can also serve as a storage basket indoors.
The presence of the handle creates a gentle sense of space, adding a soft, calming atmosphere to your interior.
Available in the brown-toned “Natural” and the cream-colored “White,” please choose the type that suits your preference.

Baskets by the mother and son duo, Jeanny and Jefke
It all began when Jeanny found a book about basketry at a library,
made her first basket, and became fascinated by willow as a material.
For more than 25 years, she has continued to create baskets,
constantly seeking what she calls “true craftsmanship.”
Her passion for basket weaving naturally passed on to her son, Jefke,
who had been by her side since childhood.
At the age of five, he made his first basket.
When Jefke was eleven, he realized that what he truly wanted to create
was delicate and finely woven willow work.
Encouraged by his enthusiasm, Jeanny and Jefke spent two years in the Netherlands,
training under a master known for his intricate willow weaving techniques.
Jefke’s finely detailed weaving embodies the essence of European basketry,
where, as the saying goes, “from cradle to grave,” baskets are made to serve every need of daily life.
