This is a “Coiled Snake” Shimekazari, one of the Oriental zodiac series we introduce at our store,
modeled on a snake coiled up, in reference to the year of the snake in the Oriental zodiac in 2025.

In the photo, there are three “Coiled snakes” lined up, but they are sold individually (4,400 yen each, including tax).

The snake is a symbol of “regeneration” and “vitality”
because it grows by repeatedly shedding its skin.
It is also said to be the messenger of the god of water,
and is worshipped in rituals to pray for a good harvest and for rain.

It is also thought that the “Shimenawa(a Sacred rope)” itself represents the shape of a snake.

Because of their appearance and unique characteristics, snakes have an eerie and scary image,
and for this reason, people in ancient times seemed to have had a sense of awe towards snakes
and to have regarded them as objects of worship.

The way the tail stands up is dignified, but also somehow charming.

It is said that snakes coil up into a ball to calm down,
and at the same time to prepare for the next attack.

Looking at this snake, you get the sense that it is a snake that will settle down wherever it likes and not be fazed by anything,
but that it will also always drive away evil spirits.

This is a small but highly presentable Shimekazari that is perfect for purifying a place.

Shimekazari are decorations made from rice straw that are displayed inside and outside the house in preparation for welcoming the New Year’s deity, “Toshigami-sama”.

The Shimekazari introduced here is made using rice straw harvested in the southern part of Nagano Prefecture and is made locally.

The makers are involved in every step of the process, from growing the rice straw to harvesting and making the decorations.

Rice straw, also called “green harvest”, harvested before the rice has ripened.

Rice straw harvesting takes place in the peak of the summer heat, from July to August.

This is a video of the rice straw harvest. Please take a look.

This Shimekazari is made from high-quality rice straw that is also used to make the ring for Sumo wrestling.
The soft green rice straw is carefully woven into a pattern.

It’s a cute size that fits in the palm of your hand.
From a single straw rope, the coils of a snake are wonderfully expressed.
It is small, but it is carefully and firmly braided.
As this product is made by multiple craftsmen, there may be slight differences in the direction of the head and the thickness of the body. Please leave it to us to decide what we will send you.
The head looks just like a snake’s scales. According to the maker, it is a very detailed weaving technique that takes time.
The snake’s tongue is made from Mizuhiki(decorative Japanese code). Red is a lucky color that represents the vibrancy of life and is also said to ward off disaster.
They have a powerful presence that seems like they could suck out evil spirits at any moment, but they also have a friendly feel to them. As they are made by hand, there will be individual differences in the orientation and length of the two separate tongues. Please understand this in advance.
The tail is standing straight up, and it looks lively.

How about placing them in your favorite places, such as the entrance, kitchen, bathroom, living room or dining room?
The compact size means you can display them anywhere you like.

You could also display several of them together.
In the photo, there are three “Coiled snakes” lined up, but they are sold individually (4,400 yen each, including tax).

Looking at them like this, it looks like three snakes have gathered together and are chatting.

It’s like they’re discussing the best way to ward off evil spirits,
or they’re trying to think of ways to perform an exorcism.
It’s a funny scene that makes you smile.

We also recommend that you display them and enjoy them throughout the year, even after New Year’s Day.

In order to keep the Shimekazari in good condition,
please do not leave it in the cardboard box after it arrives, but open it and take it out immediately.

If you do not display it immediately after taking it out of the box,
please store it in a cool place that is not exposed to direct sunlight.

After use, you can either take it to the shrine’s collection point or dispose of it as burnable waste.
If you dispose of it as burnable waste, please make sure to follow the waste classification rules of your local government.

There are various legends associated with snakes.
We hope that everyone will decorate their homes with them, with their own wishes in mind.

By keeping it nearby, you can slip away from various difficulties like a snake.
Also, by having it nearby, it will ward off evil spirits, keep misfortune away, and support you.

We hope that next year will be a year of peace and flexibility for you.

**Please read the following text to the end and make a reservation
only after you have understood it.**
