This pot is made from aluminum alloy and features an inner ledge to support a steamer.
(Suitable for gas stoves; not compatible with induction cooktops.)

It is designed to pair perfectly with the “Japanese Steamer” series introduced on a separate page.

We also recommend it as a versatile cooking pot for everyday use—ideal for simmered dishes, miso soup, and more.

This is a commercial-grade pot, also used in professional kitchens.
It is highly durable and easy to handle.

Compared to standard aluminum step-rim pots(*), this aluminum-alloy version is even stronger and heavier—giving it a solid, dependable feel that’s ideal for regular use.

The pot has vertical side handles for easy carrying, efficient storage, and convenient stacking across different sizes.

This stepped pot is convenient both for professional use
and for preparing larger quantities of food at home.

This page introduces three sizes: 27cm, 30cm, and 33cm in diameter (approx. 10.63″ to 12.99″).

*A smaller version of this aluminum pot series,
the “Small Stepped Pot (811120),” is also available with nearly the same design.
If you are purchasing a Mini Japanese Steamer (811119), we recommend choosing the Small Stepped Pot.

This pot features a hammered finish on both the inside and outside surfaces.

Hammering is a technique in which small dents are made in a sheet of metal—
in this case, aluminum—by striking it repeatedly with a hammer.

This process increases the strength of the pot,
and because the many small indentations increase the overall surface area,
it also improves heat conductivity by allowing more convective heat from the stove to be absorbed.

As a result, heat is transferred to the ingredients quickly and evenly,
making this pot ideal for slow-cooked dishes and simmered foods.

The rim of the pot flares outward slightly.
Seen from above, there is a stepped structure just below the rim, designed to help prevent boiling over. The distance from the top edge to the step is approximately 1.18″ to 1.38″.
This step allows each pot to securely hold a Japanese steamer that is 3cm smaller in diameter—a very practical feature.
The countless hammer marks are not only functional but also visually appealing, giving the pot a warm and handcrafted feel.
The handles are also made from aluminum. They are sturdy, but they do become hot during cooking, so please use a kitchen mitt or towel when handling.
The surface of the pot is treated with an anodized finish, which protects the aluminum and helps prevent darkening on the inside.
The size is stamped on the outer rim of the pot for easy identification. Now, let us introduce the three available sizes.
Please note: You may occasionally notice small marks from contact between pots.
These do not affect function and are not considered defects.
This is the 27cm (10.63″) pot. It pairs well with the 24cm (9.45″) Japanese steamer. The widest point of the rim measures approx. 11.22″, while the inner diameter at the step is about 9.84″.
Suitable for simmered dishes like miso soup, curry, or stew for 3 to 5 people.
This is the 30cm (11.81″) pot. It is designed to fit the 27cm (10.63″) Japanese steamer. The widest rim diameter is approx. 12.40″, with an inner step diameter of about 10.83″.
deal for miso soup, curry, oden, or hot pot for 4 to 6 people.
This is the 33cm (12.99″) pot—the largest in the aluminum pot series. It fits the 30cm (11.81″) Japanese steamer. The widest rim diameter is approx. 13.58″, with a step diameter of about 12.20″.
Perfect for oden, hot pot, or other dishes meant for larger groups.

The combination of the Japanese steamer and the stepped aluminum pot
has a quietly refined presence—beautifully balanced and deeply satisfying to look at.

Recommended combinations of Stepped Pot and Premium Japanese Steamer:

  • 27cm (10.63″) Pot → 24cm (9.45″) Steamer
  • 30cm (11.81″) Pot → 27cm (10.63″) Steamer
  • 33cm (12.99″) Pot → 30cm (11.81″) Steamer

We also offer wooden drop lids made from sawara—available in both solid and perforated versions—
which are especially useful when simmering dishes.

Please choose a lid that is one or two sizes smaller than the diameter of your pot.
Solid and perforated drop lids (811113 / 811112) are available on separate pages.

Recommended Drop Lid (Solid or Perforated) Sizes for Each Pot:

  • 27cm (10.63″) Pot → 22cm (8.66″) or 24cm (9.45″) Drop Lid
  • 30cm (11.81″) Pot → 24cm (9.45″) or 26cm (10.24″) Drop Lid
  • 33cm (12.99″) Pot → 26cm (10.24″) Drop Lid

We hope this helps as a size reference.

Whether paired with a steamer or a drop lid—or used entirely on its own—
this step-rim pot is a reliable tool you’ll find yourself reaching for in daily cooking.

Please choose the size that best suits your needs.
